Staying Safe

Brethren, finally we are starting to see some relaxation on the COVID-19 restrictions and, while it doesn't yet allow for us to return to lodge, I sincerely hope it gives each of you and your families a little more freedom and normality during your daily lives.

It will take some careful decision making before we can assure ourselves that we can all safely re-enter the lodge room. We will need to observe all social distancing rules, including 1 person per 4m2 and recognise that we can't simply divide the square meterage and come up with an accurate figure when we take into account that we don't even use the middle portion of the lodge room.

Most importantly we MUST take into account the age profile, risk factors relating to our membership and the Government and Public Health Authority advice when making any decision. Each lodge will need to consider their own particular circumstances before any return to lodge activities is made. More advice on this matter will be provided in due course.

Once again stay safe and take care of each other

So mote it be

From Germany with Brotherly Love

Freemasons from Germany support the Grand Master's Disaster Relief Appeal.

With the current situation that affects us all worldwide it is easy to shift our focus and forget that, only a few months ago, bushfires ran wild destroying our lands and communities.

In response to these tragic events, the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany (GL BFG), MW Bro Glyn Edmonds, sent out a call for supporting donations to all lodges, The United Grand Lodges of Germany (VGLvD)*, its individual Grand Lodges and the Freimaurerisches Hilfswerke.

In a show of united generosity and charity, one of the grand principles in which our order is founded and practiced, the GL BFG was able to donate €30.000 to the Masonicare Disaster Relief Fund on the last day of February. An incredible achievement for such a small Grand Lodge.

* The United Grand Lodges of Germany have existed as an umbrella organisation to order masonic diversity in Germany since 1958. The overall 15.000 German Freemasons are organised independently in five Member Grand Lodges where they actively lead lives in the masonic community.

From the Board of Management

Although Board meetings have been restricted, your Board of Management has definitely not been "sitting on its hands" during the current lockdown period. By-law changes have been approved for Oatley Lodge of Instruction, Nowra Unity, Lodge Carnarvon and Lodge Sir Joseph Banks.

Our Communication team reports that they are working on updates and changes to our website.

Our Education team reports that there is a lot of action happening out in the jurisdiction with regards to Zoom management and educational meetings.

Our Membership team have established a committee to work on a future social media blitz and the Grand Master's Task Team (GMTT) have been assisting lodges in the set up and operation of Zoom which has been very well received.

The Building Committee has also been busy enabling restoration and emergency repair work to begin at Wauchope, Cessnock, Macksville and Ballina.

Our Grand Treasurer and the Finance and Audit team are meeting weekly in order to see us through these difficult times.

Working Bee to hit the ground running

VW Bro Kevin Alchin and RW Bro Charles Wattle working on the front fence of the Hawkesbury Masonic Centre

Lodge Richard Coley members have been active over the last two months conducting working Bees at the Hawkesbury Masonic Centre. The WM, W Bro Garry Ragen, has organised weekly functions to paint the front fence of the building. This is to get the members together again after all the isolation and no lodge meetings.

The Brethren were happy to participate although some of the work was back breaking for some of the older members. The WM himself has put in over 120 hours of work on the front fence alone as well as some of the members.

The local Police was happy to accept this as a workplace as long as social distancing rules were adhered to.

The Lodge members have also been in touch using Zoom to conduct management meetings.

In a world often dictated by hate and segregation, membership of an organisation capable of uniting men of all religions, colours and even accents is more relevant than ever.
