Focusing on the Positives

Brethren,

As we move further into what has been a most interesting year, I would like to focus on some positives that have actually come our way during these past few months.

Buildings

While, from a masonic perspective, we were in total shut-down, our Board of Management and the Grand Master's Task Team have been working tirelessly. Both have been busy assisting a number of our building owners repair and upgrade their Masonic Centres, and by doing this, many of the lodges attached to those buildings have reported renewed interest from their local community groups and members of the public. It is great that Masonic Centre owners are taking initiative, they have renewed buildings, renovated lodge rooms and made their South areas presentable and suitable for commercial rental purposes. This has been a great opportunity for them to broaden their income base.

They have been making their building more presentable and welcoming by cleaning, gardening, painting and hanging LED Square and Compasses on their buildings, all of which has really created local community interest to such an extent that we now have a number of men waiting to join the Craft, and I congratulate you all for making the most of the difficult restrictions that we have been faced with.

Database and Reporting Upgrade

During the lockdown, the Board of Management, with great assistance from our Grand Treasurer, has started the major upgrade of our database reporting systems. As we move forward, this will greatly assist our Lodge Secretaries, Lodge Treasurers, the Board of Management, our District Grand Inspectors of Workings and our Regional Grand Counsellors.

Patience and Understanding

Masons are a resilient bunch. We have closely followed the rules set down by the Health Authorities and we have acted accordingly. Our close attention to detail and our care for each other has assisted us greatly in the development of our unique 3 Stage "Return to Lodge" process. I thank you for your patience and I congratulate you all for the safe, common sense approach you have and are taking with regards to your safe return. We now, depending on the lodge location, and the local community protocols, see different common-sense levels of masonic activity taking place. From continued online business meetings right through to short face to face meetings with no South activity, there can be some involvement for each of us.

Please, only meet when absolutely necessary and look after each other and your families

  • wind instruments;

are not permitted in regular style meetings during the current conditions.

STAGE 1 - PREPARE THE BUILDING

All Masonic Centres are required to register as a COVID Safe business and prepare the building in accordance with steps that will be provided to them by the Grand Secretary.

NOTE: Once all buildings have been prepared we can then move on to Stage 2.

STAGE 2 - PREPARE YOUR LODGE

Once all Masonic Centres have completed Stage 1 it will then be necessary for each lodge to prepare their meeting place (lodge room) in accordance with further steps provided to them by the Grand Secretary.

NOTE: When lodges have completed Stage 2 and following further directions from the Government Health Authorities we can then move on to Stage 3.

STAGE 3 - RETURN TO LODGE

Once lodges have completed Stage 2 requirements and after ensuring we comply with all regulations directed by the authorities, the Grand Secretary will advise those lodges that they may consider their return.

NOTE: The Grand Secretary will provide further advice on any meeting restrictions that may apply as a result of further directions from the Government Health Authorities.
